fish and mouse Flashcards
what useful techniques can be used on mouse?
mutagenesis, targeted knockout by use of pluripotent stem cells
how are zebrafish eggs fertilised?
externally
what happens in zebrafish cls (SOX10) mutant?
have no swim bladder, ear defects, enteric neurons missing, pigment cells missing
what do mutations in SOX10 in humans cause?
waardenburg syndrome type IV (hearing loss+pigment abnormalities)
what is transgenic animal?
animal carrying a gene that has been incorperated into its genome using recombinant DNA rechnology
what happens in zebra fish with alpha actin GFP and claudinbGFP?
alpha actin- labels all skeletal muscle
claudinb - labels lateral line primordium and developing kidney duct
what is meant by mouse undergoing turning?
embryo is initially inside out (endoderm on outside)
