What is holdback evidence?

A

Information regarding the investigation that is believed to be known only by Suspect/Police.
Examples: weapon, caliber of weapon, wound- location or type, manor that body was left- anything unique done to body, location (crime scene, body dump), items located at scene (duct tape, knives, damage)

  • photograph the suspect before anything is seized or swabbed
  • examine hands, face, exposed skin for injuries
  • photograph with scale
  • swab bloodstains
  • powder residue- is GSR kit an option

Take appropriate samples (hair,saliva, blood, nail clippings)
General warrant, DNA legislation, incident to an offense
