What are the three types of evidence?
1) testimonial- evidence from witnesses, video, audio
2) documentary- cheques, documents, certificates, photographs
3) physical- fingerprints, footwear, tire impressions, physical match etc
What is locards exchange principle ?
(Exchange of evidence)
When any object or person comes into contact with an object or person, a cross transfer of physical evidence occurs (the EXCHANGE of evidence)
Evidence. What are the 4 responsibilities from time of collection until court?
1) identify each piece of evidence
2) describe exactly where it was found
3)prove continuity
4)describe the changes in the evidence
-physical damage due to storage
- spillage/evaporation
- change in physical appearance
What is the path of evidence?
Most likely area to find evidence.
The safe path - the area away from path of evidence when possible to search and clear evidence to allow personnel access
What are good sources of DNA?
Blood, saliva, hair root, tooth pulp, bone marrow, skin cells, muscles, semen, nasal secretions.
