macbeth- banquo Flashcards
more honourable than macbeth
banquo thinks before he acts and does what is right unlike macbeth
- “ a wisdom that doth guide his valour”
banquo is ambitious like macbeth and hopes the witches prophecies come true but doesnt act on them representing a path macbeth couldve taken - he isnt corrupted by his ambition showing him to be more honourable
banquos conscience is more important to him than power or glory
doesnt trust the witches
he thinks rationally when he meets the witches and questions whether they re real and doesnt trust them
he tells them he “neither bed nor fears your favours” but is still intigued to hear what they have to say and thinks about the predicitons
-“dreamt last night of the three weird sisters”
doesnt act to protect himself
suspects macbeth murdered duncan - “i fear thou play’dst most foully for it” but doesnt act on his suspicions
he reminds himself he will be the “ father of many kings” which shows ambition can distract even the most honourable characters
macbeth sees banquo as a threat - when the killers surround banquo he says “O treachery” which tells us he didnt suspect macbeth of betraying him.
