Inspector Calls:shiela Flashcards
Language makes her seem childish at first
Uses slang ‘squiffy’ to remind audience she is of a younger generation
When she gets the ring she is excited and looks to her mother for approval “look mummy isn’t it a beauty?”
She jokes with Gerald but she is ‘half serious half playful’ . Her childishness is a way to hide serious concerns
She has moral standards
Acknowledges she used her “power” to “punish” Eva but regrets her actions and is eager to learn
Priestley uses her as a moral judge at the end of the play - “probably between us we killed her”. The others don’t get as far as admitting that
She tells Gerald she respects him for being “honest” .
Priestley uses her to show hope for change in the new generation
