Inspector Calls: Mrs B Flashcards
Proud of her status
To preserve her status she is prepared to be cruel
Traditional: “when you’re married you’ll realise”
Proud:”I was the only one of you who didn’t give in”
Prejudiced:”as if a girl of that sort would ever refuse money”
Cruel:” I used my influence to have it refused”
Doesn’t change
She is self centred and hasn’t noticed her own sons alcoholism and dismisses her daughters worries that Gerald lost interest last summer
Won’t accept responsibility for Gee actions and claims she did the right thing
Doesn’t learn from the inspectors message and only regrets “not having asked him a few questions”- she wants to be in control
Stage directions show her mind is made up
She answers ‘sharply’ and ‘bitterly’
She repeatedly tells everyone she already guessed it was a hoax ‘triumphantly’. It is more important to her that she comes out on top than that her actions caused a suicide
In the final moments of the okay she is ‘smiling’ and telling everyone to cell as “amused” as her. Suggesting she has already put it all behind her
