M4s1 Upper Limb Muscles Overview Flashcards

1
Q

Muscles that attach the axial skeleton to the pectoral gridle (shoulder)

A
  • refer to goodnotes
    -Extrinsic shoulder muscles move the scapula and are divided into anterior and posterior divisions

Anterior:
Pectoral is minor and the serratus anterior
-attach via ribcare ti connect both

Posterior
The trapezius (gets name from trapezoid shape)

Q

Muscles that Attach the pectoral gridle to the humerus

A

-refer to goodnotes
-main muscle to move humerus and stabilize the glenohumeral joint: the deltoid
-muscle abducts the arm
-4 rotator cuffs stabilize joints: subscapularis, infraspinatus, supraspinatus, teres minor

Q

Muscles that move the forearm (arm muscles)

A

-refer to goodnotes
-these muscles flex and extend the forearm, at the elbow joint
-biceps brachii flexes the forearm, while the triceps brachii extends the forearm
-bicep brachii also a powerful supinator of the forearm

Bicep brachii name
Bicep = 2 then indicates heads
Brachii = arm
Therefore biceps brachii is a msucle that has two heads and located in arm

Triceps brachii name
Triceps = 3 then indicates head
Brachii = arm
Therefore triceps brachii muscle has 3 heads and located in arm

Q

Muscles that move wrist (forearm muscles)

A

-refer to goodnotes
-muscles that extend the wrist and are divided into anterior and posteriors

Anterior;
Flexor carpi radialis and flexor carpi ulnaris muscles flex the wrist and have a common origin on the medial epincondyle of the humerus
-muscles named according to bones they follow

Posterior:
Extensor carpi radialis longus and breves and extensor carpi ulnaris muscle extend the wrist
-common origin on the lateral epicondyle off humerus
-muscles also named according to bones followed
