returns extra tissue fluid and proteins to the blood via the venous system
structure
follows the venous system
drainage
occurs into the thoracic duct from most of the body, into the right lymphatic duct from the top right half of the body
thoracic duct
drains into left subclavian vein
right lymphatic duct
drains into right subclavian vein
lymph nodes
filter lymph, swelling can suggest something clinically wrong/presence of a metastatic organ
axiliary lymph nodes
where upper limbs drain
external iliac lymph nodes
where lower limbs drain
superficial lymphatics
follows cephalic, basilic and long saphenous veins
deep lymphatics
follows deeper neurovascular structures in the upper limbs and the arteries in the lower limbs
