Blood Supply to Limbs Flashcards
aorta
branches to braciocephalic, common carotid, subclavian
braciocephalic
branches to right subclavian and common carotid
axiliary
down from subclavian
brachial
down from axiliary
profunda brachii
branches off from brachial to supply deep part of upper arm/behind the humerus
radial and ulnar
branch off from brachial
deep palmar arch
formed by radial artery
superficial palmar arch
formed by ulnar artery
cephalic vein
lateral in the upper arm, drains into suclavian vein
basilic vein
medial in the upper arm, drains into brachial vein
median cubital vein
connects cephalic and basilic at the elbow
median vein of forearm
branches off from basilic, most medial branch
venae commitantes
collection of veins which surround a deep artery in a network e.g. radial and eventually converge to form a named vein e.g. axiliary
common iliac artery
splits off from abdominal aorta
external and internal iliac arteries
split off from common iliac
femoral
split off from external iliac
profunda femoris
splits off from femoral, supplies the back of the femur/deep part of leg
anterior tibial artery
forms as femoral runs posterior to the knee, between anterior side of tibia and fibula
dorsalis pedis artery
branches off from anterior tibial to front end of foot
popliteal artery
formed as femoral runs between the knee (popliteus)
posterior tibial and fibular
branch off from popliteal
medial and lateral branches
branch off from posterior tibial behind the foot
long saphenous vein
runs along the length of the leg medially and drains into the femoral vein
short saphenous vein
runs along the leg more laterally until the knee where it drains into the popliteal vein
