A
- A second circulatory system that is one-way and dead-ended
(collects excess fluid from cells and returns it to the blood)

A
Swellings in the system that fight infections
(found in dusters and glands)

How is lymph made
A
- Highly pressured blood in arteries loses fluid by ultrafiltration
- This fluid then surrounds the body’s cells.

What does Lymph contain
A
Fats, white blood cells and proteins

How is tissue fluid drained
A
- Being drawn into capillaries near veins by osmosis (90%)
- Entering lymph vessels (10%)

Function of lymph nodes
A
They fight infection by:
- Filtering bacteria
- Storing and maturing lymphocytes

Function of Lymphatic system
A
- To collect tissue fluid and return it to the blood.
- To defend the body against infection
- To absorb and transport fats
- To help with hearing and balance
