What is the Lymphatic system?
-a system of thin tubes that runs throughout the body
-tubes branches through all parts of the body like the arteries and veins that carry blood
-Lymph vessels tie in with blood vessels, helps not get too swollen
What’s Lymph fluid?
-basically blood plasma
-the plasma leaks out of the capillaries and is re absorbed into the lymphatics
-contains lots of white blood cells
What are the three diseases oh the lymph system?
Tonsillitis
-Infection of lymphoid tissues of tonsils, sore throat, high fever
Elephantiasis
-Massive swelling of area
-Filarial worm infestation block lymph ducts
Lymphoma
-Cancers of lymphatic system
Where does the lymph fluid flow?
-flows along the lymphatic and encounters lymph nodes
-cancer cells can flow threw the lymphatic system
How do lymphatic fluid back to the heart?
-moves to the heart vis muscular contractions in muscle groups surrounding the lymphatic vessels
What are lymph nodes?
Lymph nodes are important because they filter lymph fluid, trap bacteria and viruses, and help activate immune responses by housing lymphocytes. They also present antigens to these cells, which is essential for fighting infections.
What is the lymphatic Duct and why is this important?
Where lymph drains to the veins
Importance:
-Immune function
-nutrients transport: lymphatic vessels help move fat and vitamins in your intestine into your body. This helps your body absorb nutrients
