Lungs And Pleural Cavities Flashcards
What are the two surface projections of the left lung?
- cardiac notch
- lingula
Where is the cardiac notch and what is its purpose?
- structure of the superior left love
- can access the heart for injections or take out blood from cardiac sac
What are the two pleurae of the lungs?
- Visceral
2 parietal
What is visceral pleura?
- is in contact with an organ (lungs)
- covers each lung and it’s lung root
What is parietal pleura?
- covers thoracic diaphragm, costal surfaces, mediastinum and cervical region
What is the costophrenic recess
- is the pleural cavity between parietal and visceral pleura at rib level 8-9 where the lungs should never reach
- is a potential space
What are the 6 general features of lungs?
- Apex and base
- 3 borders
- 3 surfaces
- Lobes
- Fissures
- Root and hilum
What are the 3 borders of the lungs?
- Anterior border
- Inferior border
- Posterior border
What are the 3 surfaces of the lung?
- Diaphragmatic
- Mediastinal
- Costal
What are the lobes of the right lung?
- superior lobe
- middle lobe
- inferior lobe
What are the lobes of the left lung?
- superior lobe
- inferior lobe
What is a fissure?
Gap that separates each lobe
What are fissures of the right lobe? (Vertebral level)
- Oblique tissue from T2 to rib 6
2. Horizontal fissure from the oblique fissure to 4th costal cartilage
What is the fissures of the left lung?
- oblique fissure
What is the pathway of air?
- Trachea
- Right and left primary bronchi
- Superior, middle and inferior secondary bronchi
- tertiary bronchi
- smaller/terminal bronchi
