Lung disorders Flashcards
1
Q
Asthma
A
- Long term inflammation in lining of the bronchi and bronchioles
- Characterized by swelling, redness, over production of mucus
- The swelling and mucus reduce air flow to the lungs
- When a attack occurs it tightens the smooth muscles and the air gets trapped in the alveoli
2
Q
Symptoms
Asthma
A
- Coughinh
- Wheezing
- Tightness in the chest
- Shortness of breath
3
Q
Triggers
Asthma
A
- Cold air
- dust
- pollution
- smoking
- physical acitivy
- animal dander
- Pollen
4
Q
Treatments
Asthma
A
- Puffers open the bronchi and bronchioes to allow greater air flow
5
Q
COPD
A
- Long term disease
- 80 - 90 percent of the cases are caused by smoking
- Alveoli gets damaged and loses its shape this causes decrease in surface area for respiratory membrances (oxygen in the blood goes downa and the carbon dioxide in the tissue goes up
- Leads to an increase of breathing and heart rate to compensente
- Lifestyle
6
Q
Pnuemonia
A
- Infection of the lungs which leads to inflammed alveolis, filled with fluids (pus and mucus)
- Caused by streptococcus
7
Q
Emphysema
A
- Respiratory membranes in the alveolis are damaged
- Caused by smoking
8
Q
Cystic Fibrosis
A
- Genetics
- Excess of mucus production which thick and sticky and it clogs the airways
9
Q
Pneumothorax
A
- Collasped lung caused by the air entering between the pleural membrances
- Ches tube will re expand the lung
10
Q
The flu
A
- Caused by a virus
- Highly contagious
- Causes fever, coughing, and sore throat, runny nose, muscle aches
- Spread through the moisture of air
- The respiratory is vvunerable beacuse of the constant exposure to external envirmonet
