VANGUARD
What is MODE 1 (M1)
For military airspace only. Used to provide an ATC ground station with the mission profile of the mission aircraft.
What is MODE 2 (M2)
For military airspace use only. Used to provide an ATC ground station with identity (tail number) of the mission aircraft
What is MODE 3/A (M3/A)
For military and civilian airspace use.
Used to provide an ATC ground station with the identity (assigned code) of the mission aircraft.
The assigned code is first received from ATC. It is then entered into the transponder and transmitted back to ATC as a reply.
The military Mode 3 is identical to the civilian Mode A.
What is MODE 5 (M5)
Used to provide an ATC ground station, missile battery, or another aircraft with a crypto-coded reply to a crypto-coded interrogation, for the purpose of identifying the mission aircraft as friendly. This reply includes the identity (tail number) and ADS-B position of the mission aircraft Should be keyed at all times.
What is the XPDR FAIL Annunciator

What is the ADS-B FAIL Annunciator
The amber ADS-B FAIL annunciator represents failure of the unit to transmit ADS-B data either from failure of the unit or failure of the data received by the unit. This does not indicate a complete failure of transponder functionality
What is the IFF CAUTION Annunciator
The amber IFF CAUTION annunciator will illuminate when a Mode 5 interrogation is received, and a friend reply is unable to be sent
The annunciator will also illuminate when a fault in the IFF is detected, or cryptographic keys are not loaded with the KIV installed.
What is the MODE 5 LETHAL Annunciator

REL Procedure, System 33.1: Cabin Lights System
may be inoperative provided both crewmembers agree that the current lighting configuration is acceptable and safe for the duration of the flight and will not interfere with flight duties.
REL Procedure, System 34.21.1-6: Ground Proximity Warning System (GPWS)
GPWS may be inoperative provided the flight crew conducts proper flight planning to ensure terrain avoidance along all parts of the flight route.

What is the P-73 A/B.
Restricted area in the vicinity of Seoul, ROK.
If an aircraft flies toward P-73 without proper clearance, a tracer warning shot will be fired. If an aircraft continues into P-73, it will be shot down without further warning.

During the mission planning process, if an aircrew is flying in mountainous terrain, and the terrain can penetrate within 2000ft of the aircraft’s single engine cruise altitude, the following considerations shall be taken:
Provided Foreflight is available, the correct route input in the flight plan section of the Map mode and synthetic vision displayed. Utilize the profile function and set altitude to SE drift-down altitude for situational awareness of where along routing obstacles will penetrate. If the SE drift-down altitude is higher than 14,000’, then the profile altitude should be set no higher than 14,000’ in case of cabin depressurization.
If Foreflight is not available when flying in an environment where mountainous terrain can penetrate within 2000ft of the aircraft’s single engine cruise altitude, aircrews are encouraged to request terrain analysis products from the appropriate GEOINT support cell to analyze the terrains and routes to be taken in the event of an engine failure or loss of pressurization.
