Local anesthetics (LA) 3 Flashcards
LAs Can be used for surgical procedures diagnosis and Pain management?
lidocaine, procaine or mepivacaine and tetracaine
Nerve block technique
LAs injected around single nerve or nerve plexus to provide greater area of as anesthesia at small doses
as( brachial plexus anesthesia for procedures in shoulder, upper limb)
lidocaine, procaine or mepivacaine and tetracaine
Nerve block technique
Technique of Local anesthesia injected into subarachnoid space and used in operations of the lower limbs and lower abdomen?
Spinal
(subarachnoid or
intrathecal)
Upward passage of anesthetic agent in Spinal technique depend on…………………..and……………………..?
- position of the patient
- specific gravity of anesthetic soln.
T/ F : Anesthetic agent is injected into subarachnoid space through intervertebral spaces between 1st & 2nd lumbar vertebrae
in Spinal technique
F / between 2nd & 5th
Hyperbaric solution ( adding of glucose) has higher specific gravity than CSF so the direction of solution is?
descend distally
hypobaric solution ( adding saline or water) has lower specific gravity than CSF so the direction of solution is?
ascend proximally
Mention the adverse effects of Spinal
(subarachnoid or intrathecal) technique?
1- Decrease in the blood pressure due to paralysis of sympathetic out from the spinal cord which cause vasodilation of blood vessels.
2- Neurological complications: postural headache, numbness, hematoma, septic meningitis
hypotension during spinal anesthesia can be managed by?
- Positioning of the patient in head down position
-Administration of oxygen, fluids and IV vasoconstrictor agent such as phenylephrine, ephedrine
