Liver + Gallbladder + Pancreas Flashcards
What is in the portal tract
Portal vein
Hepatic artery
Bile duct
What is a lobule
An are drained by one central vein with portal tracts at the corner
What is an acinus in the liver
Focussed on blood supply rather than drainage so is diamond shaped with veins at each long end and portal tracts at the short end
Why don’t all hepatocytes of the liver get the same blood supply
The hepatocytes flow from hepatic artery and portal vein to the central vein so the hepatocytes nearest the central vein are most prone to ischaemia
What is a feature of a hepatocyte
Abundant mitochondria, large nucleus
What are the surfaces of the hepatocytes
Sinusoidal
Canaliculi
Intercellular
What is the space of disse
Between the endothelial cells and hepatocytes
Contains reticulin fibres and ito cells
What are ito cells
Stem cells in the liver
What are kupffer cells derrived from
Blood monocytes
What epithelium are the bile ducts lined by
Simple cuboidal - columnar (height increases as the bile travels down the tracts)
What is the path of bile from the heaptocytes
Canaliculi
Bile ductules
Trabecular ducts
Bile ducts
what are the functions of the gall bladder
Stores and concentrates bile
What is the layers of the gall bladder
Simple columnar epithelium with microvilli and thrown into folds
Specialised musoca
smooth muscle
What are the functions of the exocrine pancreas
Synthesise Bicarbonate rich fluid and enzymes
What divides the pancreas into lobules
Septa
