A subordinate reporting to his supervisor in the day-to-day operations(patrol) and then to another supervisor as a member of a specialized unit( SWAT, SRT, etc.) Conflict could arise when SWAT or SRT supervisor directs officer to attend training and patrol sergeant says that they cannot go due to minimum staffing on road.
What does “Span of Control” refer to?
The total number of subordinates a supervisor can manage as effectively as possible.
