LIGAMENTS OF CERVICAL SPINE Flashcards
TRANSVERSE LIGAMENT
divides the ring of atlas into anterior (dens) and posterior (spinal cord)
thin layer of articulate cartilage on anterior surface to articulate with dens
holds dens and atlas in close approximation
prevents anterior displacement of the atlas on the axis
ALAR LIGAMENTS
attached either side of the dens and attach to the medial aspect of the occiput
taught in flexion and relaxed in extension
prevent distraction of C1 on C2
TECTORIAL MEMBRANE
extension of posterior longitudinal ligament
posterior aspect of dens to occipital bone within anterior edge of the foramen magnum
LIGAMENTUM NUCHAE
continuation of supraspinous ligament
C7- occipital protuberance
deep part- posterior tubercle of the atlas
POSTERIOR ATLANTO AXIAL LIGAMENT
continuation of ligament flavum
connects lamina of C1-C2
ANTERIOR ATLANTO AXIAL LIGAMENT
continuation of anterior longitudinal ligament
anterior aspect of dens to anterior atlas
