- begin to compare themselves to others (Erikson’s industry vs inferiority stage)

What are some common behavioral concerns of this period of development?
- School failure and peer rejection
- Learning/attention issues
- masturbation
- urinary/bowel incontinence (toilet trained around 30 months is normal)
- bullying/school phobias
- learning disorders
What are behavioral red flags for children of this age?
- setting fires
- Violent behaviors
- cruelty to animals
What is pica?
Medical disorder where a child will eat inedible items. This is common and normal around 2, but is a problem if it persists after 3 years of age.
