- decreases automaticity of Purkinje PM cells by reducing slope of P4 Diastolic depolarization- decreases potential for reentrant pathways- increases the fibrilatory threshold of myocardial cells in setting of AMI

- symptomatic PVC’s- VT/VF after defib/epi- Wide complex tach (WCT) of unknown origin

Lidocaine - Contraindication (4)
A
- Hypersensitivity- Conduction disorders (2/3 degree heart block)- Stokes-Adams/WPW- Ventricular escape rhythms

Lidocaine - Side Effects (2)
A
- Early Toxicity w/ S/S (Tinnitus, Twitching, slurred speech, confusion)- Late Toxicity S/S (Hypotension/Heart block)- 2 mins to hit central circulation

Lidocaine - Precautions (2)
A
- dose reduced in low CO states for >70 y/o, hepatic dysfunction (not for initial dose in CPA)- give via AC with arm elevated and a 20/30 cc fluid bolus
