Levophed Flashcards
1
Q
Levophed - Class (2)
A
- Catecholamine (chemical messenger)- Vasopressor
2
Q
Levophed - Actions (2)
A
- increases systemic vascular resistance through alpha adrenergic stimulation (vasoconstriction)- B1 effects like epi (inotropic/chronotropic/dromotropic)
3
Q
Levophed - Indication (3)
A
- hypotension due to low total peripheral resistance in septic/neurogenic shock- ***adequate fluid resuscitation is precondition to use- refractory hypotension in TCA OD, not responsive to bicarb
4
Q
Levophed - Contraindications (3)
A
- Hypersensitivity- Hypovolemic- Pheochromocytoma (tumor on adrenal gland)
5
Q
Levophed - Side effects (9)
A
Ha NO TABATA- HA- arrhythmias- Tachycardia- reflex bradycardia- angina- HTN- Intracerebral hemorrhage/aneurysm- tremors, restlessness- increased myocardial O2 demand- necrosis with infiltration
