Q

Dopamine - Action (5)

A
  • Dose dependent sympathomimemtic- 1-2 mcg/kg/mins stimulate dopaminergic receptors > cerebral/renal/mesenteric vasodilation- 2-10 mcg/kg/mins B1 effects (mainly inotropic) w/ alpha beginning (vasoconstriction)- 10-20 mcg/kg/mins alpha effects ^renal/mesenteric/peripheral arterial vasoconstriction (increased SVR)- 20+ mcg/kg/mins - alpha effects similar to norepi w/ peripheral vasoconstriction/tachycardia

Q

Dopamine - Precautions (4)

A
  • Monitor VS/EKG- Stop infusion if BP >90 mmHg- Doesn’t work w/ Bicarb due to Alkaline deactivating dopamine- avoid extravasation => tissue necrosis, inform RN
