Levels of Organisation Flashcards
What is an eukaryotic cell?
Complex cells that include animals and plant cells
What is an prokaryotic cell?
Smaller and simpler cells like bacteria
What is an organelle?
Tiny structures within cells
What does the nucleus do?
Contains the genetic material that controls the cell’s activities
What does the cell membrane do?
Forms the outer surface of the cell and controls the substances that go in and out
What does the cytoplasm do?
Where the chemical reactions of the cells take place
What does the mitochondria do?
Reactions for aerobic respiration take place
What does the ribosomes do?
Where proteins are made in the cell
What does the chloroplasts do?
The site of photosynthesis which makes food for the plant.
What does the cell wall do?
Made of cellulose which surrounds the cell membrane. It supports the cell and strengthens it
What does the vacuole do?
Contain cell sap, helps to support the cell
What is an tissue?
Group of similar cells that work together to carry out a particular function
What is an organ?
Group of different tissues that work together to perform a function
