Levels of organisation Flashcards
What is a tissue?
Group of similar cell, they look the same and work together to carry out a shared function
cells that have same function are grouped together to form tissues
How is made up a muscle tissue?
It’s made upp of identical muscle cells.
Describe what is a cell, tissue, organ and system
Cell: the building blocks
Tissue; Similar cells working together in the same way
Organ: A group of different tissues that work together to perform specific functions
System: a group of organs working together
Examples of organs
Heart, stomach, lungs, brain and kidneys
Organ system and what are they made up of
- Digestive system: gullet, stomach, pancreas, liver, intestines
- Excretory system: kidneys, ureters and bladder
- Nervous system: brain, spinal cord and nerves
- Reproductive system: females: ovaries, oviducts, uterus and vagina. males: testes, sperm ducts, prostate gland and penis
What do all the different organs make?
An organism
arrange the following words into the correct sequence, starting eith the smallest ending with the largest:
organ - organ system - tissue - organism - cell
cell - tissue - organ - organ system - organism
what is the heart made up of?
different tissues such as cardiac muscle, nervous tissue, fibrous tissue and blood that work together to pump blood around the body
what is the tissue that carries out photosynthesis in the leaves?
study tip= make sure you can explain how a palisade mesophyll cell is adapted to carry out photosynthesis by listing the features and explaining how each one helps.
mesophyll. cells making up upper layer are palisade cells, which are closely packed and full of chloroplasts, so well adapted to absorb lots of light. palisade cells make up palisade mesophyll tissue. all these look alike and do same function, absorb light for photosynthesis
what are the organs of a plant?
leaf, toots and stems
