Access for all to all areas that facilitates dignified, equal and intuitive use by everyone.
Design Council Environments outcome?
Rising inequality in recent years, overcrowding. Social and economic inequality in the built environment creates barriers to people’s participation. Social Cohesion should be considered to provide social benefits which: reduce social inequality, provide a postivie image for the industry, attract a wider range of users, improved economic development.
Built environemtne creat cohesive communities creating social, cultural and economic bonds between groups.
What is gentrification and how is it damaging?
The redevelopment of renowned poorer. economically disadvantaged areas. Creates a greater divide between the rich and the poor.
Equality Act 2010
Protected characteristics: age, sex, gender, disabiilty.
What is S20 & Reasonable Adjustments?
To avoid a disadvantage when a physical feature of work puts a disabled employee at a substantial disadvantage.
Changes which can be made to allow for ease for disabled. i.e providing an accessible parking space, wheelchair accessible areas.
Cheaper and less hassle to implement at the beginning of a project rather than changing down the line.
