A

Basic truths or ideas that underpin a system of beliefs of a society (like a code of conduct).

What is democracy?

A

A fundamental aspect of British life. All citizens should be able to take part in voting and everyone’s vote should be equally important. There should also be fair, open and regular elections.

What is the rule of law?

A

This value implies that no individual group is above the law. Police officers enforce the law, if the police believe there is evidence of any individual breaking the law they will be charged, appear at court in front of a jury and if found guilty they will receive a sentence.

A

This means that individuals are free to act according to their wishes, but if the actions they take are deemed illegal but the state they then face consequences through the legal system.
