Lesson Four Flashcards
Fluid mosaic model
Double layer of phospholipids but proteins are scattered through the membrane
Glycoprotein
Protein and carbohydrate chain
Glycolipid
Phospholipids and carbohydrate chain
Diffusion
Movement of solute from an area of high concentration to an area of low until evenly distributed. Needs nothing
Osmosis
Diffusion from area of high to low concentration
Facilitated transport
Solutes move across membrane from area of high solute to low solute
Active transport
Solutes move from an area of low solute to high solute, need membrane, Carrier cell, ATP, and goes against the flow.
Factors that affect diffusion:
Surface area vs volume
Amount of cell membrane
The size of cell
Endocytosis
Phagocytosis: large pieces
Pinocytosis: smaller larger pieces
Exocytosis
Process which products or wastes exit a cell, reverse of endocytosis
