Treaty eight covers the northern half in alberta plus parts of saskatchewan, the northwest territories, and british columbia. They were not negotiated until 1899
What circumstances made Treaty eight different from other treaties
The government did not immediately set aside specific areas for reserve. To this day treaty, eight first nations believe they have yet to receive the preserve land they were promised
With the number treaties successful
To the canadian government, the treaty negotiation was successful for in their eyes first nations title to the land had been extinguished, and western cannada was open for business. However, for the First Nations, the treaties did not live up to what was promised. For they soon found they that promises made were not written down in the document
