Lesson 9 Flashcards
Who helped develop correlational analyses?
- Sir Francis Galton
- Carl Pearson
What association do we only measure/use in correlations?
Linear
What is the range of values for a correlation coefficient?
-1 to +1
What will a scatter plot with a strong correlation likely look like?
The data points are close together and on the line of best fit.
What line will form when two variables do not have a correlation?
A straight horizontal line.
Can you have a positive relationship without the correlation between variables be statically significance?
Yes!
What does correlational studies have in common with t-tests and F-tests?
They all measure DV that are continuous.
Why is it important to remove outliers?
Because they effect the value and direction of the correlation coefficient and sway the rest of the data.
What are spurious correlations?
When two variables are inferred to be correlated due to coincidence or the presence of an accounted third or confounding variable.
What should correlations never be used for?
Should never be used to determine the level of agreement between repeated measures.
