Lesson 7 Flashcards
Who came up with ANOVA tests?
Ronald Fisher when working with tea.
Why are ANOVA tests used?
Allows us to test hypotheses of a quality of an infinite number of means while maintaining a type 1 error rate at a alpha of 0.05
What are the 4 assumptions when working with ANOVA tests?
1) Dependent V is continuous.
2) DV is normally distributed.
3) Homogeneity of variance.
4) Each score is sampled randomly and independently.
What is a One-Way ANOVA?
Allow us to examine the differences on one IV on 1 continuous DV.
What are the 2 parts of variation within a ANOVA?
1) Variation within each group.
2) Variation between groups.
What does ‘k’ represent when calculating df?
k = the number of conditions/groups.
How do you calculate dfwithin?
N-k
When your Fobt is greater or equal to Fcrit then…
You can reject your null hypothesis.
When do you do a post-hoc? Why?
Do it when you reject your null hypothesis and to determine where those significant differences lie.
What categorizes as a medium practical significance in ANOVA tests?
a np squared value of around 0.25
What values do you subtract in a post-hoc?
All pairs - all numbers of absolute and cannot be negative.
