Lesson 3 Flashcards
What is the key limitation of normal distributions?
It only focuses on data at the mean and up to 3 SD above or below it using integer values.
What are 3 characteristics of a normal distribution?
1) mean= mode= median (symmetric)
2) Unimodal
3) asymptotic
Why is it good to have a large sample size?
smaller SD and therefore the data is more reliable.
What would a -3.00 skewed value indicate?
More extreme values above to the right. Severely skewed and data is reliable.
What are the multiple for each SD?
1) 1
2) 1.96
3) 2.58
Why are z scores useful?
Allow us to compare data points that are not similar or were not calculated the same way.
How do you know whether to use a small area or larger area for the calculated z score?
If the blocked area is more than 50% of the distribution - use the large area and vice-versa.
