Lesson 5 Flashcards
What does practical significance address that statistical significance does not?
Tells us how large the effect found is and how precise the findings were.
What scores correspond with what significance?
p -value = statistical significance.
effect size = practical significance.
If a p value falls beyond 3 SD away from the mean, what does this tell us?
Goes beyond the normal distribution and a small p value saying that the values found show a difference.
What do Confidence Intervals tell us?
Tell us if we can be confident/ trust the information from the sample and rely it back to the population.
What characteristics do you want for your CI?
- narrow (precise)
- line does not cross zero (right means there is an effect from the control).
On forest plots why is the diamond important?
That is the result from the sum of the meta-analysis. The middle tells you the effect compare to the control and the width tells you the certainty you have in your result. Cross zero - no difference.
The z-score fraction meaning-
Numerator -pratical significance
whole thing - statistical significance.
