Lesson 6 - Arms Flashcards
Hand Bones
8 Carpals – wrist bones
5 Metacarpals
14 Phalanges – same as feet
Metacarpal Phalengeal Joint
Joint where metacarpals and phalanges meet aka “knuckles”
Wrist Joint
Radius + Carpals
Forearm Bones
- Radius - lateral bone (anatomical position) on the same side as the thumb. This forearm bone rotates around the ulna.
- Ulna - medial bone (anatomical position) on the same side as pinky. This forearm bone does not rotate.
Olecranon
Name of elbow joint – bony landmark on the ulna
Supination / Pronation
Anatomical positioning and rotation of forearm (2 positions)
Humerus
Bone of upper arm
Glenohumeral Joint
= Head of Humerus + Scapula
“Shoulder joint”
Elbow Joint
= Radius + Ulna + Humerus
Pectoral Girdle
= 2 clavicle + 2 scapula
Scapular Landmarks
4 Fossa (indentations in the bone)
- Supraspinous – above spine
- Infraspinous – below spine
- Subscapular – front of scapula (anterior view)
- Glenoid - lateral part of scapula; part of glenohumeral joint
Acromioclavicular Joint
= scapula (acromion) + clavicle
Sternoclavicular Joint
= sternum + clavicle
Hand Muscles & Location
Flexors - Anterior
Extensors - Posterior
Thenar Eminence - Thumb Side (muscles of thumb pad)
Hyothenar Eminence - Pinky side
Wrist & Forearm Muscles
Flexors
Extensors
Retinaculum - Supports tendons during movement and forms “carpal tunnel”
