Q

What are points to consider when asking for approval to conduct research on a vertebrate?

A

If you are studying a human or anima disease or health concern:

*The disease
*What causes it
*What therapy is currently used to treat it
*How the proposed animal experiments might improve health or prevent human or animal pain and suffering.

*Because there are non-scientists in IACUC, part of the response should be explained using language that a high school student should understand.

*Avoid complex scientific language

*Make sure to explain and define medical terms and abbreviations the first time when using them.
