No jaws in greek. They are jawless and lack scales. Lampreys and. hagfish are representative of this class.
Hagfish are?
Deep-seat animals that are also called slime ells due to their ability to produce a slime that gels to immobilize their prey, even though they are not really eels.
Do hagfish’s have a cranium and bones?
Yes, no
Should hagfish be considered vertebrate?
There is debate since they do not have a vertebral.
Lampreys are born in?
Freshwater and spend their entire lives in freshwater.
Do some lamprey species lie in the sea as adults before retiring to freshwater to spawn?
Yes
how do Lamprey feed?
They feed on flesh and body fluids of other fish by secreting an anticoagulant into the host fish.
Chondrichthyes?
Fish with cartilaginous skeletons as opposed to bony skeletons. Sharks and manta rays belong to this class and are referred to as elasmobranchs.
Characteristics of Chondrichthyes?
*Teeth not fused to the jaw
*The absence of a swim bladder
*Internal fertilization
*Multiple gill slits
*Tiny tooth like scales
*Nostrils on the side of head
Osteichthyes?
Bony skeleton fish, which make up over 95% of all fish species. Fish such as trout, salmon, and bass are members of this class.
Osteichthyes that are further divided into their main two groups?
*Lobe-finned fish
*Ray-finned fish
Most bony fish belong to which group?
Ray-finned group.
Within the ray-finned group, which group is the major group?
Teleost fish
