Q

Phylogenetic tree

A

Evolutionary tree
- Diagram used to represent the evolutionary relationships between organisms
- Branched diagrams to show that different species have evolved from a common ancestor.

Q

Advantages of phylogeny:

A
  • It can be used to prove classification of organisms.
  • Continuous tree whereas classification requires taxonomical groups.
  • Linnean classification system implies that different groups of the same rank are equivalent. However, phylogeny maps time.
