Lesson 3 Levels of Organization: Cell Organelles and Functions Flashcards
the chemical level consists of atoms the simplest level
Molecule
when two or more atoms interact
Macromolecules
the large, biologically important molecules makes up the structures of the cells
Organelles
are the basic units of structure and function of living things
Cells
are group of similar cells functioning together
Tissues
are group of tissues that have specialized functions
Organs
comprise of organs functioning together
Organ systems
2 types of compounds essential to the human body
Inorganic compound
Organic compound
does not contain both carbon and hydrogen-like water (H2O), salts, acids, bases and carbon dioxide (CO2).
Inorganic compound
contains both carbon and hydrogen, like glucose (C6H12O6). Adenosine Triphosphate or ATP is the body’s fundamental molecule of energy transfer.
Organic compound
are hydrophobic compounds that provide body fuel and are important components of many biological compounds
Lipids
are critical components of all body tissues. They are made up of monomers called amino acids
Proteins
are compounds made up of nucleotides
Nucleic Acids
organ systems functioning together which makes up what?
