Lesson 3 flower Flashcards
What was the biggest challenge that plants faced when trying to grow tall and failing due to said challenge
Early plants couldn’t grow tall due to the lack of transport system
What is the transportation system?
the transportation system is responsible for moving water, nutrients, and sugars from the roots to the leaves, flowers, and other parts of the plant.
What parts of the plant cannot photosynthesize?
The roots cannot photosynthesize due to it being underground and needing the transportation system to gain nutrients and water to survive
What is a vascular tissue
The word vascular refers to pipes or vessels, and contains xylem and phloem
what is the function of xylem and phloem
Xylem transports water through the shoot system while Phloem transports sugar but can also transport hormones and amino acids
What is the term for growing plants in water-filled pipes high above the ground and how does it work?
Hydroponics is the practice of growing plants in water-filled pipes above the ground. The plants absorb water and nutrients directly from the pipes, while transpiration causes water to move up through their roots to replace what is lost.
