Lesson 15 Flashcards
Why do we clean transducers?
To prevent nosocomical infections
What are nosocomical infections?
Infections you pick up at a hospital
How many types of transducer care is there?
3
What are the 3 types of transducer care?
- Critical
- Semi-critical
- Non-critical
Critical transducer care
Device enters otherwise sterile tissue
What is an example of critical transducer care?
Intraoperative applications
What is the level of disinfection for critical transducer care?
Sterilization
Semi-critical transducer care
Device contacts mucous membranes
What is an example of semi-critical transducer care?
Endocavity applications
What is the level of disinfection for semi-critical transducer care?
High
Non-critical transducer care
Device contacts intact skin
What is the level of disinfection for non-critical transducer care?
Intermediate or low
What are 5 examples of transducer care?
- Store in clean areas in holders/transducer racks
- Keep the cords off of the floor
- Wipe the probe and the cord between each patient
- Use carrying cases for transport
- Use sterilization wipes/solution
What kind of sterilization wipes should you not use? (4)
- Bleach
- Ammonia
- Alcohol base solutions
- Sprays
Why should you not use bleach/spray products?
Easy to inhale
What kind of sterilization wipes should you use? (3)
- 5% hydrogen peroxide
- CAVI-wipes ***
- Preempt
What kind of sterilization should you use for invasive transducers?
Let the transducer soak in solution for x minutes
- CIDEX
- Recert
What are 4 examples of an invasive transducer?
- Transvaginal transducer
- Transrectal transducer
- Transesophageal transducer
- Catheter mounted transducer
Why do we use invasive transducers?
It gets us much closer to the tissue so we get a higher resolution
Why are we able to use high frequency without worrying about attenuation with invasive transducers?
Because since it is invasive you are lowering the distance therefore you are lowing the attenuation
What are side lobes?
Additional beams of lower intensity on with side of the transducer
What are side lobes considered?
Artifacts
