A
can help judge MPs performance compared with their manifestos
make it clear when the gov. is acting out of it’s authority
Doesn’t lead to a zombie parliament (like under May)

Weaknesses of a UK style mandate?
A
no absolute majority required
difficult to say if the gov. can make changes not put in the manifesto
some ideas of the party might not be supported by the people that voted for them
