something that causes destruction,violence, etc.
ex.
The country barely survived the cataclysm of war.
culinary(adj).
of or relating to the kitchen or cookery.
ex. They serve a variety of culinary delights.
denigrate(v).
to say very critical and often unfair things about someone
ex. Her story denigrates him as a person and teacher.
gourmet(n).
a person who enjoys and knows alot about good food and wine.
ex. Food critics have to be gourmets in order to write about food in an informed way.
grandiloquent(adj).
speaking or expressed in a lofty style, often to the point of being pompous or bombastic.
ex. He became more grandiloquent, as if he was trying to make up for the years of silence with words of gold.
hybrid(n).
an animal or plant that is produced from two animals or plants of different kinds.
ex. I bought a hybrid dog today- a yorkiepoo (cross between a yorkshire terrier and a poodle).
manifold(adj).
Many and various.
ex. The manifold attractions of that state made it an ideal destination for a family vacation.
palatable(adj).
agreeable or acceptable to the mind.
ex. I did not find the idea of moving again very palatable.
panacea(n).
something that will make everything avout a situation better.
ex. Mom believes that chicken soup is a panacea for nearly everything.
plebeian(n).
a common person.
ex. The plebeian (working class) population ends up paying the most taxes.
scourge(n).
someone or something that causes a great amount of trouble or suffering.
ex. The city was ravaged by the scourge of unemployment.
stalemate(n).
a drawn contest.
ex. The budget debate ended in a stalemate.
temperate(adj).
emotionally calm and controlled.
ex. He is a very temperate man- I’ve never seen him angry in his life.
