What is recommended for invasive procedures?
That sterile gel is used
When do you most often use bacteriostatic gel?
When the skin mucous membrane is intact
How often should the gel warmers be cleaned? (2)
- Weekly
- with low level disinfectant - Immediately
- if the warmer becomes soiled
How is the gel placed on the patient?
By indirect means
- no contact of the bottle to the patient
- not on the transducer (patient safety)
What are negative effects of placing the gel directly on the transducer? (3)
- Could contaminate the bottle and it would need to be discarded
- Could miss and spill on the floor
- Could touch contact and be an increase in transmission
What is gel mostly made up of?
Water
Why are intra cavity cleaning procedures important? (2)
- To keep the sonographer safe from exposure to any blood or body fluids
- To protect the patient from cross contamination from any instruments used for the procedure
What is the most important PPE for intra cavity procedures?
Gloves
- a gown can be work if needed
HLD
High level disinfection
What happens to all intra cavity probes?
They are all put though a process of HLD
What do you do to the intra cavity probe before HDL? (2)
- Wash it
- rinse with water - Thoroughly/visually inspect it
What must the probe be before it goes through HLD? (2)
- Clean

What kind of room is cleaning and HLD performed in?
Dirty room
What is the cleaning room equipped with? (3)
- Sink
- Eye washing station
- Any cleaning agents required
Where is the automated HDL kept? (2)
