Lesson 10: macOS Apps Flashcards
Key Points
An app, short for application, is a group of files that function together to perform a specific task like browsing the web or organizing events.
The Mac App Store contains a catalog of apps approved by Apple.
An Apple ID is required to install any apps from the Mac App Store.
To install an app from the Mac App Store:
Open the Mac App Store.
Find an app you want.
Click the Get button, or price button for paid apps.
Click Install.
Sign in with an Apple ID, if not already signed in.
To install an app from the internet:
Download the software from the developer.
Open the disk image or installer package and follow onscreen instructions.
Notarization was introduced to provide users more protection from software downloaded from the internet.
In order for a macOS app to pass Apple’s Gatekeeper settings, it must be submitted to Apple for notarization.
To delete an app, find the app in your Applications folder and drag it to the trash.
Some apps might provide an uninstaller to ensure all files, even those that may be outside of the Applications directory, are removed.
