iOS devices go through a process called Setup Assistant when they are turned on for the first time, or after they are reset to factory settings.
iOS devices require a Wi-Fi connection during Setup Assistant.
Setup Assistant allows you to transfer your personal data to a new device from another iOS device, from a backup, or from an Android device.
Setup Assistant allows users to configure certain features before the device is in use, including:
Apple ID
iMessage
FaceTime
Location Services
Siri
Screen Time
iPhone Analytics
App Analytics
Appearance
Display
An Apple ID allows us to use iCloud, the App Store, and other Apple services. It’s recommended to sign in, but not required during Setup Assistant.
Mobile device management (MDM) solutions, such as Jamf Pro, allow for customization of Setup Assistant.
