what makes the authority legitimate
-in the sense that is is agreed by society, will only have legitimacy if the majority listens to them

-when leaders can use legitimate powers for destructive purposes- make ppl behave in ways that are cruel and dangerous

an institution which backs it as a third party

-if authority figures commands are harmful, for them to be perceived as legitimate they must occur within some sort of institutional structure like a uni or military
