Why was the computer misuse act developed?
To cope with problems of computer hacking and viruses
What are the 3 different levels of offence for the computer misuse act?
Hacking a computer system
Hacking a system while intending to do something with the data found
Hacking a system and changing files, e.g. planting a virus
What is the electronic communications act (ECA)?
A law that ensures online transactions are secure. It also allows digital signatures to be legally binding
What is the regulation of investigatory powers act (RIPA)?
Allows authorised people/organisations to carry out online surveillance. It also makes it illegal for unauthorised people to do so. It covers detection and prevention of terrorism and crime
What is the purpose of the data protection act?
Ensures the organisations store and process personal data safely and securely
