What is marginalisation?
The individual feels excluded from society. They don’t have a voice politically or socially
What is relative deprivation?
The individual feels they are lacking socially and materially in comparison to others
How do subcultures cause crime?
Individuals try to overcome their relative deprivation and marginalisation by gaining status in a subculture - with different forms of dress, criminal activity, antisocial behaviour etc.
