Lecture28: White Matter And Internal Capsule Flashcards
What do association fibres do?
Connect 2 areas on the same side of the cerebral hemisphere
What do short association fibres do?
Connect adjacent gyri
What do commisural fibres do?
Connect between the same 2 areas on both sides
What does the anterior commisure do?
Connects the olfactory structures of both sides
What does the posterior commisure do?
Connects between the visual structures on both sides
What does the hippocampal commisure do?
Connects the hippocampus of both sides
What is the greatest commissure?
The Corpus Callosum
What is the curved anterior end of the corpus callosum called?
The Genu
What is the thin part of the corpus callosum called?
The Rostrum
What do projection fibres do?
They pass to or from the cerebral cortex
What are the 2 types of Projection fibres?
Ascending and Descending
What supplies the Genu?
Internal carotid artery
What supplies the internal capsule?
Middle cerebral artery
What does infarction of the internal capsule lead to?
Lower facial weakness, anesthesia, hemiparesis
What does infarction of the internal capsule result from?
Occlusion of Lenticulostriate branches of the middle cerebral artery
