Lecture21: Knee Joint Flashcards
Name the extra capsular ligaments?
Medial and lateral collateral ligaments, and oblique popliteal ligament
Which intracapsular ligament prevents hyper extension?
ACL
Which intra capsular ligament prevents the posterior displacement of the femur on the tibia?
ACL
Which intracapsular ligament prevent anterior displacement of the femur over the tibia?
PCL (posterior cruciate ligament)
What does the synovial membrane form?
The suprapatellar bursa
What forms the infrapatellar fold?
The synovial membrane
Inside the knee, the medial meniscus is shaped like?
C-shaped
Which meniscus is liable to injury?
Medial meniscus
Which meniscus is connected to the medial collateral ligament?
Medial meniscus
What does the lateral meniscus look like?
Circular in shape
Why is the lateral meniscus mobile?
Due to it being separated from the lateral collateral ligament and capsule via the Popliteus tendon
Name functions of the menisci?
Shock absorbers and provide a space for the flushing of synovial fluid, thus nutrition for the articular cartilage
Which muscle is mainly responsible for the stability of the knee joint?
Quadriceps
What is inflammation of the bursa commonly called?
Housemaids’ knee
