what is the leadership perspective?
The behavioural process of influencing individuals and groups toward set goals
what is the relationship perspective?
the situation in which coaches’ and athletes’ emotions, thoughts, and behaviours are mutually and causally inter-connected
what is a leader?
motivating, dm, provides direction and gives feedback
what is a manager?
organises, budgets, schedules and recruits
how does a leader become a leader?
appointed by someone in authority, emerges from within the group
what does a leader do?
Focus on developing and maintaining these close relationships – trying to get the most out of ppl
what is a relationship-oriented leader
Moderately-favourable conditions
Highly-skilled players
what is a task-oriented leader?
Very-favourable or Unfavourable conditions
Less-skilled players
what is the multidimensional model of leadership?
Transformational leadership – can be broken down, situational characteristics, leader characteristics, member characteristics – personality, type of atheltes – these underpin the type of beh that will occur
Required beh – favourable for a certain given scenario – heavily influenced by sit characteristics – feed into the actual beh – leadership that is inhibited by the coach, big impact on what actually happens
Preference beh – from athletes – where do ppl fit within the group? – what performacnes are occurring on the pitch
what is fransens study on leader confidence?
either high confidence leader or low confidence leader - looked at confidence after a warm up and test session
what was the results of fransens study?
Level of perceived team confidence expressed by team leaders transfer to the confidence of team members
Team members adapt to the perceived confidence standards set by the team leader more when they identify more strongly with the team
A team leader’s expressions of confidence contribute to team members’ capacity to perform in both a positive and negative way

racism, sexual harassment, pressure to conform to ideal weight and body image (drug use)

reflects the interpersonal attraction among group members
